Kickapoo Kamp

We dropped Madden off Sunday for her first sleepaway camp. She was SO EXCITED!! They get divided into two tribes: Choctaw and Cherokee. She so badly wanted to be Cherokee, because all of the girls she knew were Cherokee...and looking at the photos on the Kickapoo website today, it looks like her wish came true! I know she must be thrilled!

Circumnavigating the Island

We had a really cool day sail with Captain Rusty on his trimaran, Trisel. We circled the island, stopping for lunch and a snorkel in the deserted Newfound Bay on the northeast end of St. John. The first 1/3 of the trip was a bit rough as we were sailing on the Atlantic side of the island, and Madden felt seasick. But she rallied when we made the turn around Ramshead and made our lunch stop. After a little food, we all hopped in the water to snorkel. Madden quickly spotted a stingray below us some 10 or 15 feet, and I was most impressed that she did not immediately get right back out of the water! This was Tosha's first snorkel, and she rocked! It is amazing to see the island from the vantage point of the water - it is 2/3 National Park and for the most part undeveloped. Captain Rusty filled us in on much of the local history & politics which was fascinating to hear. It was a memorable day!
