Science Fair Success

Preparing the science project was not without tears at our house. Many tears, many days. Perhaps the struggle was worth it? She got a 1st place ribbon and medal and, most importantly, was very proud. Her teacher gave her a perfect score plus bonus point. We have no way of knowing what scores the other 2 judges awarded. By the way, there were multiple (5-ish?) 1st place ribbons per grade. Her project was not awarded a "Best in Show" ribbon which would have allowed her to go on to the citywide competition. I was relieved I didn't have to add that to our schedule. Does that make me a bad mom???

By the way, based on our experiment, don't waste your money on the Green Bags. However, my mom and uncle swear by them. Madden found that the green bags extend the life of a banana approximately 1 day. For grapes, there was no benefit.

And so it begins.

I can feel Madden getting older and beginning the inevitable pulling away that every child experiences. I physically felt it this morning. As I was walking down the hall with her on the way to her classroom, we were holding hands. We rounded the corner to her classroom and ZIP! She pulled her hand away in a flash. It wasn't a "We've arrived at our destination, so it is natural that I should pull my hand away" kind of move. No. It was a "Ohmygosh! Someone might see me!" kind of separation. Sigh.

My first baby turns 9 years old this weekend.

The first of many to come, I'm sure...

SLUMBER PARTY!!!

Madden chose a slumber party to celebrate her 9th birthday. She invited 5 friends for an Arts & Crafts sleepover. We painted canvases, stamped stationery and designed iron-on t-shirts. Somehow they also found time for wagon rides, balloon games, a play, making homemade pizzas, and of course birthday cake. Believe it or not, some sleeping actually occurred. They were slumbering by midnight and didn't wake up until 8 a.m.!

It's time for the show.
Butterflies in my stomach;
I twirl gracefully.

Written in her head, while in bed, waiting for her daddy to come tuck her in. Clearly a talent gleaned from the paternal genes.
