Babysitting Little Po

We are babysitting little Porter for two nights while Daddy is working in Prague and Mommy is at a meeting in D.C. He is a sweet little guy!

Hook 'Em!

Fun tailgating this week! What a game!

I almost had to throw down with some guy a few rows behind me who yelled at Kevan and I to "Sit down, ladies!" Sadly, I have never been one to be quick with a comeback, so I just turned around and informed him that "I don't sit down!" Porter then chimed in and said "Hey old guy, if you want to sit down, watch the game at home!" Which was much better. I am going to spend the whole week thinking of lots of wonderful things to tell this man if he is at the Oklahoma State game next week. But I don't think he is a regular ticket holder. Or else he would have KNOWN that I don't sit down or shut up during a Longhorn game!

Bargain Shopping again...

I don't typically shop at Gymboree for the girls. It is all a bit too matchy-matchy (albeit cute), and I am not into paying $28 for t-shirts. However...... I am willing to make a Gymboree exception when the t-shirts are $3 like they were at the Mommy and Me Children's Consignment sale that I volunteered at last week! The clothes are gently used (and I do mean gently, as they have to pass a pretty rigorous inspection to be allowed on the sales floor) with the exception of a couple of "New with Tags" items. I came home with 18 pieces for $75. I do sooooo love the thrill of the bargain hunt!

Callie's Tropical Paradise

Callie's 7th Birthday party was last night! It was a Hawaiian Luau, and by all accounts, a huge success! We had a giant waterslide, mudpies, various dance styles (check out Callie's water sprinkler!), Limbo, hula hooping, CareBear cake, fruit kabobs, puppet shows and more!

Texas Tailgating

Lots of pregame fun with the Hahn and Kaufman families! Rachel tried to teach everyone how to ride her Ripstik. It is one of those things that a 10 year old makes look really easy! Porter felt it was the type of gadget that might lead to another ACL tear, so after 10 yards, he was off! I didn't even try - I like my knees.

By the way, the new north end zone looks so cool! It's not quite the same as the OSU Horseshoe, but it is darn near close!

Remembering 9-11-01

I'll never forget that morning. I was on my way to see Dr. R, my OB. I was very pregnant with C who was born three weeks after the tragedy. When I left for the appointment, the first Tower had been hit. At that point, they were still saying that they thought it was a small commuter plane that had hit the building. If only that had been the case. I remember being terrified to bring a child into a world where such things could occur.
Hard to believe that it is a full seven years later. But I will never forget.

I don't like Ike!

Hurricane Ike is bearing down on Corpus Christi. It is not good. UT vs. Arkansas cancelled. Well, postponed. Parents heading to Austin tomorrow. Uncle B supposed to be flying into Corpus on Sunday. Not likely. (He's been on an Alaskan cruise, lucky duck.) More likely he might be coming to Austin? Parents supposed to fly out of Corpus on Monday for 2 week trip to Italy. Not likely. If the storm doesn't make a direct hit on Corpus then they will likely fly out of Austin and head on their way. If it does make a direct hit, well, please say your prayers for what Ike might leave behind.

Brownies

C "flew up" from Daisies to Brownies on Friday. She is very excited to be a Brownie like M. C has a very sweet Troop. Her Troop leader sent photos from the meeting. They are on Shutterfly, so I can't copy them, but you can go look at them here. The older gentleman is her leader's neighbor who is a 92 year old Army Veteran. He told them several stories which left quite an impression on C who can retell them to you if you ask. C kept telling me that he "has lived a very good life."

***Sorry--I am told the link above isn't working. Too bad, cute photos.
