Could our girls be any less alike? Callie dances only hip hop, and Madden dances anything but. This is Callie's dress rehearsal performance for today's recital. She is the youngest in the class, dancing with girls that are Madden's age. I think she holds her own.

The (5th grade) Graduate
The graduate received one more round of awards on Wednesday: Citizenship award, Choir award, Voracious Reader award including the Genre Challenge (they had to read a certain number of specific types of books), The President's Award, and Enthusiastic Learner in Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies. We are all sad to say goodbye to Doss Elementary School.

Accolades
Proud of the family this week. Well, ALWAYS proud of the family, but this week they received some awards, so please pardon the boasting that is coming your way.
Madden was elected Captain of the Jr. Belles dance team on Monday. She is so excited about this! Last year, there were 3 co-captains, but this year, it seems it is just little ole Madden leading the pack. The team has 10 returning members and about 20 new members. She will be responsible for choreography of the team's dances, and I just learned, we get to host a party this summer. Hurray!
Callie participated in a UIL competition on Saturday. We did not stick around for the awards ceremony that day, so she didn't find out until Monday that she received 2nd place in Oral Reading and 1st place in Listening! Those are the only two events she participated in, so needless to say, she was THRILLED!
And finally, Porter. You remember that guy? Well, it seems to be a particularly exhausting Session for him. We literally don't see him more than 15 minutes each day. He came home this week with a very nice handwritten thank you note from the State Comptroller, Susan Combs, lauding him for his "very deft management skills" and "great touches of humor." Nice!
And me? I'm off to fill 200+ water balloons for the annual 5th grade water balloon fight tomorrow after Sports-a-Rama (Field Day). Is there an award for that?

Read this Book.
I am very into teen lit at the moment. I think it's because I really want to keep the girls reading, so I am constantly on the lookout for a book I think they will like, or better yet, love. This is one of those books. It is on the Bluebonnet book list for next year. It is heart-warming, sad, uplifting all at once. It is a great lesson on compassion. Trust me on this one. Read it. Madden, Callie and I all have.
