The No Name Band
The band played their first gig last weekend at a Doss party. The party was auctioned off at our annual fundraiser - $75/couple to sign up to attend, max of 40 couples, hosted by 6 Doss families. The families donated the cost of the party and all attendee money goes straight to Doss PTA. It's quite an effective fundraiser, and boy did they raise the bar this time! It was a Mardi Gras theme complete with crayfish, King's cake, Hurricane's and beer, of course. Porter's band set up on the back porch and was the entertainment. (Well, the tours of the 8,000+ sf house were entertaining too!) I think the band was a total wild card in the eyes of the hosts - they weren't sure if they were going to flop or fly. But they totally rocked it, playing an hour plus set of mostly traditional covers including Johnny Be Good, Hot Legs, and Brown Eyed Girl. The audience demanded a second set encore, and there was some time devoted to Open Mike as well. And in fine form, the cops arrived just past midnight and shut the band down. True sign of a successful party!
