The annual Easter Egg hunt/Petting Zoo was this morning at our church. We've reached the stage/age where the girls are now much more about the animals than the eggs. After quickly searching out her allotted dozen eggs, I believe Callie was close to the first one in the petting zoo. I know for a fact she was the last one out an hour and a half later!
Just to be clear, I am maintaining a strict NO RODENT policy in our house. So don't get any ideas about a bunny gift. For that matter, it is also a no amphibians, reptiles or fish policy! Dogs, yes! Cats, maybe. Rodents, NEVER!
The girls had a whirlwind Spring Break, managing to fit in time with each set of grandparents and be thoroughly spoiled! They began in Temple, with 3 days of golf, zoo and shopping with Nana and Grandpa. Then the three of us took off for Corpus for a few days with Grammie and Grandpa. Lots of lounging, eating, walking Liberty and celebrating dad's birthday (and did I mention eating?)! Callie also squeezed in the first swim of the year, albeit only 30 seconds worth (COLD!!)! We arrived home early Sunday afternoon to be greeted by Granna. We had a belated birthday dinner for Porter, and she spent the night with us! A great way to end a great week.
I just realized that I don't even have my favorite blog listed on my blog. It is Mt. Hope Chronicles, written beautifully by Heidi, a home-schooling mom to 3 boys. Perhaps I love her writing so much because to me she is everything I am not, would not, could not be. I envy and admire her. She is an amazing photographer; she seems to embody patience; and did I mention she home-schools her three boys. She is spiritual, kind, creative. I want to be like her when I grow up.
This was on her blog a couple weeks ago in her article Mama Said There'd Be Days Like These: "If a child is misbehaving, there are three possible reasons: he is tired, he is hungry or he has to go to the bathroom."
This cracked me up. It was true when the girls were infants, true of the girls today, and quite frankly, also applies very nicely to adults.
Lots can be learned while eavesdropping on the conversation in the backseat of the car. Callie was explaining that next year she wants to take a "break" from dance and try soccer. Since I was eavesdropping, I pipe up with the suggestion that she could take a break from gymnastics instead of dance, to which she replied, "I can't live without gymnastics!!!" And then from Madden, "I am living just fine without gymnastics (she quit this year to play soccer instead), but I could never live without dance!"
So alike, yet so very different, those two.
Here's Callie at this weekend's Tiger Team performance at the Purim Carnival at the J. She is working on her backbend kickover and flip-flop. She even let me spot her on her flip-flop in the backyard. She's not quite there yet, but it is forthcoming!
Don't you just love these photos? Remind's me of Mary Tyler Moore's "You're Gonna Make it After All!" Pure bliss on a weekend trip to Dallas with Granna. It was the girls' Christmas gift - a trip to the American Girl store including lunch and a doll hair-do, skating at the Galleria, staying at the Westin Hotel IN the Galleria! What more could a 7 and 9 year old want???
The girls were lucky enough to be escorted by their handsome Daddy and Grandpa to the school dance! A fun time was had by all and they danced the entire night!
