Gymnastics Finale

I got to see Callie perform her end-of-year gymnastics routines. Lots of improvement this year! Great job!

UNDEFEATED

The Paper Plates made it through their 4th undefeated soccer season! The undefeated status was preserved by none other than "C-Dog," Macallister Ann Wilson, who scored on a penalty kick from near midfield with about a minute left to play in the last game of the year!! The Plates played from behind the entire game. One of the players on the opposing team is on Callie's gymnastics team, and was talking some smack, informing Callie that they were going to "crush the Plates!" Callie took the penalty kick from the far sideline, down 3-2. Her monster kick flew untouched into the goal to tie the score and preserve the season's undefeated status. VERY proud moment as a parent! I *might* have jumped up and down screaming and making a fool of myself and likewise embarrassing my child. The Plates finish the season 6-2-0.

Favorite Song

Porter and I saw Brett Dennen last week at La Zona Rosa. This is the girls' fave tune off his new album. Fun night! Check out the full version of Sydney here. Shout out to Kendra for turning our family on to his music.

Easter Day

We spent Easter day with Anna and Dell. We went to church at First United Methodist Church, which is the church I grew up in, and where Porter and I were married. Afterward, we went out to Kenny and DeAnn's home by the lake for Easter lunch. Sadly, my camera battery died, and I have no pictures of their home and beautiful view of the lake. The girls were a bit conflicted about the Easter Egg hunt: they both helped hide the eggs and then also hunted them! It was a beautiful Easter with family.

We had such a relaxing afternoon and evening lounging by Bill and Paula's new pool. We ate sausage, ribs and corn on the patio and watched the golfers go by. Great day with family!

What's Been Cooking?

Tilapia: cumin-crusted broiled tilapia. Madden and I each had seconds. Po and Callie each had none. :-(

Pesto: homemade from my basil plants on the back porch with walnuts instead of pine nuts. YUM! Served with chicken on bowtie pasta. Madden, Porter and I all gave it thumb's way up. Callie gave it thumb's down - she STILL eats no pasta.

Tonight: dinner on the run somewhere as we drive all over town from dance to piano. Everyone will be happy for a change, except maybe Mr. Bank Account.

Paper Plate Prowess

The Plates continued their winning ways on Saturday, but it was their closest game to date. The opponent was out to get them. One of their teammates is on Callie's gymnastics team and told Callie their team was "gonna crush" the Plates this week. (There are only 4 teams in our division, and we play each team 3 times. We won the first meeting 2-0.) They were definitely all business with their coaches armed with clipboards and the like, and they had TWO coaches prowling each sideline. Seriously. They wanted to WIN. But, the Plates would not be denied and took the game with a 3-2 score. Callie had some awesome defensive stops and played a great game. Sideline Spectators Big Sister Fan Club Yawn. Are we winning again?! Boring. That's all we do is win, win, win.

Austin Field Trip

The 3rd grade took a field trip last week to learn about Austin history. This wasn't the ordinary 'get on a bus' variety of field trip. Nope, this was the 'volunteer to drive a bunch of giggly girls around town' variety! The class was split up into individual cars, and we drove and met at designated spots around town including the Texas Capitol (where Porter led our class on a 1st rate tour!), the Texas Supreme Court, and the Texas State Cemetery. Those of you that know me well know that rowdy children combined with history (yawn!) are not exactly my definition of a fun-filled day. HOWEVER, even I must admit, it was a nice day. The tour guide at the State Cemetery was excellent, telling entertaining stories about scalpings and such. We saw graves of Stephen F. Austin, Tom Landry, Ma Ferguson, and Barbara Jordan. This was followed up by the personal Porter treatment at the Capitol (all of the other classes were jealous). My sweet group of girls, however, deemed it "BEST FIELD TRIP EVER!" about the time I rolled into 7-11 and bought them all a round of Slurpees! Yay for being the cool mom!

Cap 10K

Porter and long-long-time friend Steve ran the Capitol 10K last weekend. Looks like the Aggies take it all this year, even this race.
